Fritz G. Vogt
FRITZ G. VOGT (1842-1900)
was born in Germany in 1841 and immigrated to the United States as an adult. Between 1890-1900 he traveled by foot as an itinerant artist and farm laborer in a five county area west of Albany, New York. Typically his drawing are dated and signed and the property owner’s names are inscribed along the bottom. His livelihood often hampered by poor English skills and problems with intemperance, Vogt survived by exchanging his beautifully rendered drawing for small sums of money or food and shelter. He died at the Montgomery County, New York Almshouse at age 58.
